Case Study: Salary Packaging Business and Client, Complete Web and Mobile Solution for Salary Options
Salary packaging is an Australian Taxation Office approved way of paying for some everyday items and living expenses with the pre-tax salary. Salary packaging lowers employee’s taxable income and increases their take-home pay.
Salary Options is a salary packaging service business. Some organisations that offer salary packaging to their employees, outsource it to a third party such as Salary Options. Salary Options serves clients of different sizes, thousands of employees in total.
The Challenge
Salary Options used to use a commercial software for managing the salary packaging operations. The technology of the software was old and out of date. It was expensive to maintain, difficult to use, was not customisable enough to meet some specific business needs, difficult to integrate other business applications with.
The Solution
We designed and built a custom solution consisting of three applications:
- An application for managing salary packaging business operations and customer accounts, only accessible by Salary Options employees
- An application (web portal) for the customers to access their salary packaging account on the internet to check their information and transactions, and perform self-service functions
- A mobile app for iOS and Android devices for customers, offering all the functionalities of the web portal, for a better mobile experience
All the applications interact with a central API, backed by a database as a single source of truth. When ready to launch, we migrated the data from the legacy database to the new one.
The Result
Fulfilled all the business requirements, streamlined business and improved efficiency, reduced software maintenance costs, improved employee and customer experience, made future updates and upgrades possible, simplified third-party application integration through the API, such as a rewards program and additional payment methods for customers.
